Rafael Nadal is not the only tennis star from the Spanish island of Mallorca. Look hard enough and you'll also uncover Moralspain. The "Pa amb Oli" loving World No. 40 is one of TS3's most improved players. Though admittedly not very ambitious, if Moralspain continues to develop he could soon be rubbing elbows with the best players on the tour.
Born: Mallorca, Spain
Currently Reside: Mallorca, Spain
Single or married: Single, thank God!!
Story behind your Gamertag: Well it's just a play on words. Moral in Spanish means "perseverance, strength" and we are known as Spanish bulls, so I wanted to mix those two ideas (strength and Spain). In Spanish it would've been "Moralespañola," but I used "Spain" to be more international, hahaha, so "Moralspain."
Describe your gaming set-up: Samsung LCD HDTV 26", great TV BTW, and a headset that I bought 2 to 3 weeks ago, through Ebay, to a Chinese who made it by hand, or at least that is what he told me.
How many hours a week do you typically spend playing video games: I can't say an exact number of hours, but not too many. I play more time on weekends and when I'm on vacation.
Favorite video game that doesn't involve a fuzzy ball and a racquet: XBOX was my first console (the black one), so I used to play PC games, and for me the best one was Half-Life for PC. Also, I spent a lot of time playing Prince of Persia. Xbox 360 videogames: Call of Duty 2 and 4.
After a tough loss, have you ever broken a controller, kicked the dog, awoke a neighbor: Never. When you have to buy your stuff with your money, well, you know. I'm very patient and calm, this is just a game so I don´t get mad when I lose - very often by the way (hahaha).
Does your wife/girlfriend/significant other support your gaming habit: I have no girlfriend right now so is my brother (Luis) who supports me. He's always pushing me to sign up for tournaments, and saying things like "Come on Xavi, you've got to rule the clay season, that's the Spaniards kingdom" hahaha. To be honest, I'm not an ambitious guy, so sometimes while I'm playing a tournament match I'm thinking to myself, "I don't care if I win or lose the match, I just wanna have fun," and my bro is always there to remind me that when you´re playing tournaments the most important thing is the victory.
Favorite Sport: Hard to say, I love all sports. I play tennis, football, paddle (a kind of tennis ). I also go swimming, running, cycling almost every day. We have very good weather in Mallorca, so that helps a lot if you love sport the way I do. I was also a triathlete for 2 years, but that required too many hours to have a good level in the competitions. Well as you can see, sport is an important part of my life.
Favorite recording artist/band: I have many, I like all kinds of music. I believe there's a specific music for each moment. Spaniards: Quique González (songwriter), Internationals: All time artist (Bryan Adams, Michael Jackson, Bob Marley, Kenny G). One of the songs I'm listening to the last days is "I love college" by Asher Roth, he reminds me of Eminem, really good song.
Favorite Movie: Again, this is hard to say, mmmmm, Action: Beverly Hills Cop, Letal Weapon, 007 ,The Bourne identity, Seven; Comedies/Romantics: When Harry Met Sally, Marx Brothers; Drama: The Pianist and Fight Club; Horror: The Shinning, Alien, American Psycho.
It's your last meal, what would you choose to eat: I would choose "Pa amb oli," typical in my island. The dish is mainly bread, ripe tomatoes, olive oil, salt, cheese. And also, I would have my mum's "Tortilla de Patatas," delicious.
Favorite chilled beverage: Peach juice or water.
Hobbies other than gaming: Driving, practice sport, watching TV series (like Fringe, for example), going out with my bro and friends to have a good meal at a good reastaurant (there's nothing better), and of course women (well its not a hobby, hahahaha, but you know what I mean).
Favorite ATP player (current): Rafael Nadal, Fernando Verdasco, Andy Roddick, Gilles Simon.
Favorite ATP player (all-time): Agassi or Sampras.
Sampras and Agassi - The Younger Years
Favorite WTA player (current): Jelena Dokic
Favorite WTA player (all-time): Steffi Graf, she taught the world how to hit a good slice backhand.
Federer or Nadal: hahahha, no comment.
Favorite tournament: I like Roland Garros, but my favourite is Wimbledon. There's something magical in that tournament, love it.
LIFE ON THE TOUR...
Lefty or Righty: Righty
Favorite surface/court: Clay. I would love to say grass, but I hate all he grass courts (the light is horrible, I can't see the ball).
If you could win any tournament of your choice, which one would it be: Wimbledon or Roland Garros, but I don't think this is gonna happen. Like I said, I'm not an ambitious guy. I care more about playing well than getting the victory, yeah hard to believe but true.
Describe your style of play: I'm mainly a baseliner. My style is not based on power, so I try to reach every ball and when I have the chance hit a good cross shot.
Who would you consider to be your greatest rival on the tour? To have a great rival you need to play semifinals ,finals, to build that rivalry. In my case is still to early to have rivals. It's now when I'm getting into the game. I use to play good matches with almost everyone: Djarvik, Mack, Pica, Callofduty....
Most memorable victory: Amazing Zizou, this year at BNP Paribas Open. He was the No. 9 and I had a good day. After that match I received messages congratulating me for the victory, hahaha.
Most disappointing loss: Losing the final in Napoli this year against Ghostld. It was my first final, and I couldn't develop my best game. A pity, but I must say he played great.
